Gratitude today, closer as a couple tomorrow

In couples' daily diaries, feeling grateful one day predicted more connection and satisfaction the next, for both partners.

In couples, feeling grateful one day predicted feeling more connected and satisfied the next day, for both partners.

The study

Couples kept daily diaries about their interactions. Gratitude that came from everyday interactions with a partner predicted increases in feelings of connection and satisfaction with the relationship on the following day. The researchers describe everyday gratitude as a kind of booster for relationships.

Starting small

Noticing one small thing a partner did today, and perhaps mentioning it, is a simple daily practice. A quick note in a journal is another way to keep track of those moments.
